Summer Adventures

June through September

Self-Guided Hiking

Our location provides direct access to incredible hiking opportunities:

  • Fossil Ridge Overlook: 2-hour return, moderate difficulty
  • Alpine Lake Circuit: 4-hour loop, challenging
  • Wildflower Meadows: 1-hour easy walk, perfect for families
  • Walcott's Trail: Historic 3-hour route to the quarry viewpoint
  • Valley Bottom Stroll: 30-minute riverside walk

Nature & Wildlife

The lodge sits in prime wildlife habitat:

  • Mountain goats and bighorn sheep on the ridges
  • Black bears and occasional grizzlies (safely viewed)
  • Hoary marmots and pikas among the rocks

  • Evening elk bugling in September

⚠️ Critical Winter Safety Information

Avalanche Hazard: The area around Walcott Lodge is avalanche terrain. All guests venturing beyond the immediate lodge area MUST:

  • Check current avalanche conditions at Avalanche.ca
  • Carry avalanche safety equipment (beacon, probe, shovel)
  • Have avalanche safety training (AST 1 minimum recommended)
  • Travel with experienced partners
  • Inform lodge staff of planned routes

The lodge provides daily avalanche bulletins and can arrange guided trips with certified guides (additional cost).

Winter Wildlife

Winter brings unique viewing opportunities:

  • Wolverine and lynx tracks
  • Winter-adapted ptarmigan
  • Ice climbing mountain goats
  • Wolf pack sightings (rare but possible)

Power-Free Gourmet

Our chef creates extraordinary meals without electricity, proving that limitations inspire creativity. Using wood-fired ovens, traditional preservation techniques, and the finest local ingredients, every meal becomes an event to remember.

Daily Dining Schedule

Breakfast (7:30 - 9:00 AM)

Start your day with a hearty mountain breakfast:

  • Fresh-baked breads and pastries from our wood oven

Trail Lunch (Available from 9:00 AM)

Dinner (6:30 PM sharp)
